At Alvarado Middle School, staff was informed that there would be two kinds of lockdown - a blue one (danger off-campus) and a red one(danger on campus). Staff was informed that, should students be outside the classrooms during a blue lockdown, they could be admitted to any classroom. However, during a red lockdown, nobody is to open the door for anyone, and students caught outside in this situation are directed to go into the student restroom and hide in a stall. Periodically, student restrooms are unavailable to students, as they get locked up after incidents of graffiti. The issue was brought up in a recent staff meeting, and not really responded to. This week, one set of restrooms were locked up, unavailable to students. The need for an alternative plan for when restrooms are locked was brought up to the principal, who seemed not to understand what the problem  was.  WHAT IF THAT SHOOTING HAD HAPPENED AT ALVARADO MIDDLE SCHOOL YESTERDAY, RATHER THAN BARNARD WHITE? How many children would have been trapped outside, considering it happened after school, when students were still on campus.? That is the question I would be asking, if I had a child attending school there.
