I am not happy with the new forum, does anyone else feel this way?  If the editor reads these post there was nothing wrong with the previous format.  Why do we fix things that aren't broken?

The Tribune should return to the old format.

A newspaper's forums isn't a free speech area. It's a privately owned and operated entity. They pay their money for the bandwidth. We're guests. Just like you pay for your home space and control what happens therein.

agreed.  these forums are horrible.  The tribune has managed to silence free speech.
 
 
The worst thing the Trib has done is to charge for access to news articles more than one week old in their archives  which should be public information.  Their reporters receive free reports from public officials.  These reports are almost verbatim from the police so
why should be have to pay to access public information given freely?  Can you imagine how much it would cost to do research these days if all newspapers charge for every single news article?  The concept is frightening.  Thank God the SF Chronicle doesn't do it.
 
And yes, news conglomerates are now a handful in this country owned by the most powerful and wealthy individuals who have been
given another carte blanche handout by the Bush administration to now purchase TV stations as well.  Soon a handful of people
will control what Americans read and know.    Americans have already been dumbed down by TV.  This will conclude the process
of creating one of the world's most ignorant and stupid citizens.

What a crappy design.  Obviously little thought given but I'm sure it was expensive enough.  Lucky prorgammers get to try try again!

Greetings!
First time on this. One could consider using the public library and the services of a librarian to help you retrieve articles from the past. I suspect the new forum was chosen so it does not have to be monitored as closely by someone the paper will have to pay. I like the postings on Sfgate.com and others.

The newspapers are complaining about the profits they are not making. While they are not getting the huge profits of television, they are still doing just fine, at the expense of our democracy.

Consider creating your own new media and leaving these corporate websites and support candidates that are beginning to take a stand against media consolidation.
