What exactly was the disagreement between Dellums and the IRS? If it's a real issue, and he's got some basis for a dispute, then OK, people dispute their taxes. But if he won't say what it is, don't we all know he was just plain cheating? What a mess Oakland is.

The IRS doesn't impose leins if you have a genuine dispute and shown good faith in at least paying the undisputed amount.  This smells like a cheat.  $239,000 over the course of 3 years?!  Were they writing everything off?

Well, just add the Ron and Cynthia to the large list of Oaklanders who have no problem living off the Government teat.  I always knew he was little better than a common thug: this just proves it.  If he had even one atom of integrity, he would resign now.  P-E-R-I-O-D!

Living well beyond your means is a red flag for embezzlement, fraud and other criminal activity. I would urge the City Auditor, the Oakland Public Ethics Commission and the FBI to look closely at the millions in annual office funds allocated to Dellums and the members of City Council. What is this money actually spent on and are he and Cynthia diverting it for personal use (e.g., to pay utility bills, etc.). This is a big problem and the entire City Council should be investigated as well. Come on everyone, do your jobs and do some digging. Oakland City Hall is filled with scum stealing tax dollars to fuel their luxurious lifestyles of the rich and infamous. If anyone in City Hall has specifics, report it to the FBI, otherwise you'll be indicted for obstruction of justice and criminal conspiracy. Spill it now or go to jail!

I hope that the U.S. government takes Ron Dellum's house, car, jewelry, bank account, socks, shoes just everything. I remember when Ron Dellums and Diane Finestein chased away the Navy because they didn't want to spend the money to house a ship here in Hunter's Point. Therefore the Navy and Army pulled out from the Bay Area and took thousands and thousands of jobs with them. Ron Dellum's deserves to end up broke the way He and Diane Finestein broke a lot of Bay Area people who lost their jobs. Good ridence to a rodent like Dellums.

Dellums made a personal sacrifice to become Mayor of Oakland, and it is one which has benefitted the residents enormously. Crime is down and restaurants are up - the only two items the media regularly covers. But many other improvements have come to the city, including a more robust democracy with participation by hundreds of people who never had access to City Hall before, and the Mayor's integrated approach to stimulus funding which has brought Oakland many more resources than it would otherwise have received from Washington.

In addition, his stewardship of city resources has actually been excellent. Brown left the city with a huge mostly hidden deficit. Dellums determined to create a truly balanced budget, and he has done so.

Most people in Oakland have financial problems right this minute. It is to
Dellums credit that he has never solved his by selling his political voice to the highest bidder.

As a city, we owe Dellums a huge "thank you" and we can only hope that he will find the personal wherewithal to run again. This may be the most balanced and thoughtful administration Oakland has ever had.

Paul Rose? Is that you? This last little piece sounds like your bloated turgid press releases.  But you're not one of the real insiders, so it must be one of Doolittle's other stooges.  (Paul Rose is Dellum's press secretary, noted for never returning calls to consituents who donate less than $100k to the mayor.)

Your sales pitch might fool the tourists.

But many of us who live here learned through real experience that, unless proof of filing a Police Report is needed for medical or insurance purposes, it's a total waste of time to even bother trying to report property crimes. OPD cops only have time for physical injury crimes. Oh, and for making blatantly illegal u-turns on busy streets when rushing to an important lunchtime sandwich scene! Then, there's the OPD Dispatchers - who themselves downgrade some call-ins of certain crimes (eg, attempted B&E in progress of my home that I phoned in) down to the status of "incident" that don't even get counted in "crime" totals!

BTW, parcel tax on my Oakland home just spiked by the biggest % I ever experienced in over 2 decades.... on the heels of egregious miscalcuations, corruption, incompetence, cronysm, nepotism, & greedy lawsuits against the city filed by, Dellums's vastly overpaid administration staff. Two words sum up the measure of Dellums's "integrity" = Deborah Edgerly. ...So spare me your bull.

Dellums' only contribution to the last budget was to complain that his ineffectual staff was to be cut by 30%.  He had ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with the "balanced budget".  Ron Dellums is a useless, disgusting parasite on the Oakland politcal scene that needs to be eradicated.

Oh, and let's not forget that ole Ronnie wanted to push off City pension obligations for another 4 years.  Great job "balancing the budget", you washed up has-been.  For god's sake, Ron - in January of this year, your approval rating was at 26%; less than GWB.  That was before the budget debacle and the murders of 4 police officers (and let's not forget the icing of inciting a riot, acting as the Pied Piper to the destruction of DTO).

Stop listening to your wife and your overpaid, disingenous staff!  Wake up!  Cynthia is just pulling the strings until you kick off.  Your staff is riding the gravy train.  Please realize that your legacy will be destroyed unless you follow the wishes of Oaklanders - who overwhelmingly wish you would resign.  R E S I G N ! ! ! ! !

Ron has been at the public teat for decades. He thinks he is ENTITLED to the salary, perks, and benefits. He thinks he is not responsible for taxes, he thinks his senile and deluded mutterings are important. He'd be pathetic if he was not in office, but he is in office, which means we taxpayers are supporting his delusional state.  He is not only a tax cheat, he is a welfare cheat, in the sense that he takes from the government and gives nothing back, not even taxes. What a horror of a man.

Dellums is a low-life.  A typical career civil servant who is now a career politician.  He needs to be removed from office and a real Mayor needs to take his place. There hasn't been a decent Mayor in Oakland since Lionel Wilson.

Mr. Dellums,

You are a disgrace to our black community. P-E-R-I-O-D. Especially in these hard economic times when there are still a few of us trying to make an honest living and raise our kids right, you foster the worst negative stereotypes of the black man...greedy, womanizing, corrupt, unethical, the list goes on and on. Your story is yet another sad commentary on a great city. First the blind eye you turned towards the actions of the bakery raping and pillaging your own constituents, the 'Deborah' incident, the embarrassment of not being asked to speak at the police officers' funeral (that's the important thing, let alone inciting a community riot that only makes the police job even tougher), and now you complete your journey. Previous posters have mentioned the potential of corruption now that your tax escapades have been exposed; if that is the case I hope you end up in prison so this story has the proper ending it deserves. Maybe then our community can begin to change what a black leader really looks like.
