I say good ridence of that rodent of a Mayor Oakland has. His name is Ron Dellums. I hope that the IRS takes his house, car, jewelry, socks, shoes, underware. Everything and anything that belongs to Ron Dellums. I remember how Ron Dellums and Diane Finestein chased out the Navy because they didn't want to house a ship in Hunter's Point. Therefore the Navy and Army pulled out of the Bay Area and took thousands and thousands of jobs with them. All the way to Washington State. Ron Dellums and Diane Finestein left a lot of people in the Bay Area Broke and they lost their jobs. So let Ron Dellums get down with the rest of the RATS. Good bye Ron.

Ron Dellums...please leave. You have done NOTHING since crawling out of the comfy couch as a DC insider looking to make a name for yourself out here! Leave the heavy-lifting of real politics and getting things done to the few politicians like Willie Brown. You know he has a round-table of movers and shakers...I bet though you haven't been invited once?

guiding and directing him all along, Ron Dellums is like a snowman who has dissolved into a water puddle of decadence and corruption. This is his epitah and he wrote it himself.

Ms. Drummond, I have liked many of your columns, but I want to urge you to actually look into what Dellums has accomplished. Too many columnists just take up the latest headline and write an easy story but I would hope you might actually ask some questions about what he has done.
Crime is down - 14% in one year. And many other improvements have come to the city, including a more robust democracy with participation by hundreds of people who never had access to City Hall before. Dellums' approach to stimulus funding has brought Oakland many more resources than it would otherwise have received from Washington. His relationship with philanthropy helped fund school-based health centers. Oakland has never had real zoning or land use policies or a business assistance center or an enlightened policy toward people reentering society from incarceration. And on and on.......
In addition, his stewardship of city resources has actually been excellent. Brown left the city with a huge mostly hidden deficit. Dellums determined to create a truly balanced budget, and he has done so.
Many people in Oakland have financial problems right this minute. It is to
Dellums credit that he has not solved his by selling his political voice to the highest bidder.
I think history may find him to have been Oakland's best mayor, and I would appreciate reading a columnist who grasped a bit of that while it is happening.

michelleo:
What position do you hold in the Mayor's office? Is your last name Rose, by any chance. Only someone getting paid by Dellums or benefitting from his tenure would post a nonsensical post like yours. We all know what Dellums is, a somnolent, senile, tax cheat.

Crime is UP in my Oakland district. The increase is real and factual (unlike michelleo's campaign of delusional fluff).
And the crime increase (under Dellums's tenure) is documented in many ways - not the least of which are increase of witness & victim reports in my longtime neighborhood Watch group, confirmed by our OPD members. And, increases in OPD responses I've seen with my own eyes. And, reports told to me by actual crime victims who are my neighbors/friends. ETC!!!!

The GOOD news is that Dellums owns a $1.4 million house on the east coast, which the IRS can and will seize and auction off to pay the amount in arrears. So the taxpayer does not get screwed. However, this speaks so very poorly of Ron.

when Mayor Dellums takes "business trips" to Washington DC, he stays at luxury hotels at taxpayer expense instead of staying at his own other luxury home out there!

The IRS has recorded a lien in Washington DC, too. Whether the Dellums have any equity in that home remains to be seen.

Oh, Tammerlin. Often on the side of those who deserve it the least. This "sad epitaph" is one Mayor Dellums wrote himself. I'm not gleeful - that will come when he resigns or is forced out of office.

The Dellumses' IRS tax issues could be what decided them to leave DC and roll back into Oaktown. Perhaps they hoped -- somehow, some way -- that their tax problems would stay back on the East Coast (yeah, right, as if the Feds EVER give up), and that they could continue on in their livin' large state of denial. At some point, then, Ron may have realized how fun and profitable it would be to be mayor of Oakland. He'd only go to public events where he and his staff knew he'd be welcomed and where he could be in lots of photos with people smiling up at him. He could even get a chauffeur and a free limo, too. How cool would that be! Ron wouldn't even have to put in a full day's work, either, and no one would question his decisions because he's, you know, Ron Dellums.
So do continue to live in your complete denial of reality, sir -- the reality of the public's perception of you as a person who's coasted on the rep of a famous uncle, and whose motto is "I got mine." And do continue to put out that sense of entitlement that you and your wife so ferociously cling to. Now go look in the mirror, sir, and see where it's all taken you.

Not only that, Mayor Dellums and Jerry Brown (both career politicians) have left the people and City of Oakland in shambles!!!
They both need to join the unemployment line!
