This effort should be lauded. But I really wonder why this is necessary. The OUSD receives $8.500 in taxpayer money per student per 9 month year. For a class of 30, that's more than a Quarter Million Dollars. When I asked this question to a candidate for the School Board, she couldn't even do the math, let alone explain why that's not enough. Maybe that says something. But the median compensation for a classroom teacher is about $70-80,000, and shouldn't we be asking the school district (and every candidate for the School Board) what the heck they're doing with the other $330,00 per classroom that they can't afford supplies?
