I have been a resident of Oakland for 45 years,I visit our neighboring
cities frequently and the crime rates do not compare. I have a quick and simple
solution and if those who run this city really care about us they should at least give my
idea a chance. "GET THE KIDS OFF THE STREETS " , How ? . By closing our liqour stores
at a reasonable time, lets say 11:00 o clock on weekdays and 12:00 o clock on weekends.
What difference would it make you might ask , well if you can buy your last drink of
Hennesey at 1:45am you will most likely stay up until 4:00am that same morning. At this
time who's watching the kids ,who's getting ready for work , who,s wants to look for work
the following day. We the tax payers are not the ones buying milk and bread for our kids
after 10:00pm , all you see late night are young people buying booze and disrupting our
neighborhoods all through the night. Yes I know the city benefits tax wise through these
business' but can't we find a safer way to generate capitol. I would also like to know how
the community benefits from these liquor stores, all stores are run by family members
only, they are not generating jobs. How are they giving back? "DON'T BE AFRAID OF CHANGE"
