Burris would like to make it seem that Oscar Grant and Jose Luis Buenrostro-Gonzalez were innocent victims when the truth is that both of them chose the criminal paths in life that put them in harm's way. Grant shouldn't have died on that platform, but it looks like a tragic accident to me. Buenrostro-Gonzalez was only 15, but his family couldn't find a picture of him that didn't show him flashing gang signs. Instead of being in school, he pointed a gun at the police and died as a consequence. Burris is right in saying that parents can only do so much. How much did these families do to keep their children from doing drugs, selling drugs, carrying firearms, and confronting the police in the commission of their crimes? Oscar Grant had run from the police with a loaded gun in his hand, and Jose Luis Buenrostro-Gonzalez was truant and carrying a gun on the day he died. I have yet to hear any member of either family taking responsibility for their mistakes, but both are demanding millions from the city and from BART. My sympathies are with men like Oscar Montes-Ramirez, but no one except his family remembers his name. He was a working man with two children and a wife waiting for him at home. He ended his work week by being murdered for his wallet as he got into his truck near Mosswood Park. Where are the rallies for Oscar Montes-Ramirez? Where is the help for his widow and children?
