Mystic 7 Records of Millbrae, California recently announced that on Sunday June 1, 2008 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM that they will be holding the first of eight local “Talent Showcases” to benefit the music and arts programs of local schools at the Titan Auditorium at the Marina Community Center in San Leandro, California.

“Talent Showcase ‘08 will be a vehicle for up and coming groups, singers, & comedians to showcase their talent while gaining regional & national exposure, while raising money for youth and school programs. The winner will receive an all expense paid recording contract from Mystic 7 Records.” explained Patrick McKEE, General Manager of Mystic 7 Records.

“Via our non-profit organization, M.I.L.E.S (Music In Life, Education, & Schools) PROJECT, Talent Showcase ’08, will allow us to raise significant funds to benefit the music and arts programs in schools and to increase public awareness of the necessity of these vital programs which have been drastically cut over the past few years.”

When asked about the goals of the M.I.L.E.S PROJECT, Mr. McKEE further explained, “We want to provide funding for scholarships, instruments through donations, and funding for music programs. With the assistance of the local communities and businesses, our promotional and fundraising efforts can do that. I think a lot of people grossly underestimate the importance of the music and arts in our schools. Many of the skills the students develop in these programs can benefit them in every area of their life. Teamwork, discipline, creativity, expression, retention, and the list goes on and on.”

“And let’s face it, the music and arts programs help keep kids off the streets and avoid negative influences. For example, a friend of mine grew up in Stockton. While he was learning to play guitar and practicing, many of his classmates got involved in gangs, crime and drugs. Today he is a very successful music producer, while many of his fellow classmates are not so fortunate.”

“And there have been numerous studies that have shown that the students who are involved in them do better academically as well. And let’s not forget that they provide a much needed focus for many kids who are more creatively oriented and might be lost without them.”
