The rally was a great idea, however it fell on deaf ears with the current City Council. These are the same councilmembers that have been in charge for how many years! The same councelmembers that not all that long ago cut the police staff and disbanded the community officer programs. I moved to Oakland 17 years ago and it was a much nicer, cleaner and safer place to live back then. I bought my house 8 years ago near Highland Hospital (I'm in Ygnacio's District) and when I first moved there I had no problem walking the dogs thru the neighborhood, or to the corner store. Now I don't walk anywhere in my area. I drive my dogs to Pt Isabel these days. The new thing is going door to door to ask for cash to pay the tow driver because they will only take cash, ususally they've swiped an old pair of scubbs from the Hospital Laundry and say they are a doctor or nurse just getting off work, I get this about once a week.
Anyway - I think it's a great ieda about the rally - I just think it's fallen on deaf ears and eyes! The current Oakland Councilmembers and Oakland's very own Mayor "Naptime" will say what ever it takes to keep thier jobs with absolutley no intention of falling through, they are all true poliiticians.

Report Stop The Violen...
The problem in our city is we have babies having babies and these babies are raising themselves on video games, street corners, and violence. It is time that parents took responsibility for their actions. It is the actions of the parents that create these children. It is time for the entire community to come together as one. The actions of some destroy the lives of many.
There will be a Stop the Violence (Save our Youth) Gospel Rally this Sa[]ay on the corner of Church St. and Foothill Blvd. and 68th and Macarthur. The rally time is from 11:00AM and 4:00PM. Please come out and bring your children. We will have several guest speakers, games, and activities for the children, live music, food, and we will be building a prayer chain around the entire block.
PLEASE COME OUT AND BE A PART OF THE SOLUTION!
