Why don't they assign one of the 32 OPD officers who are tasked with investigating the wrongdoings of the other 750ish OPD to this problem? Certainly 5% of the staff can figure out that the remaining 95% are in it for one reason only. Even if I did consider Perata for Mayor, this ended it. Hey, all of you in the flatlands: READ THIS! OPD ENDORSED PERATA FOR MAYOR AT YOUR EXPENSE! Want to know why? If not, you should.

FYI, it's NOT Arotzarena's house. It's our house. Want to know why? If not, you should.

yawn.  How about looking into that big fat chick who got a job at OPD because her mom was City Manager?  Who failed 3 academies and still got cop pay to be a big fat clerk.  How long ago was that now?  5 years?  Is she still on the pay roll?

Big fat chick.

ResMan, you and I generally agree. I will not express my opinion on Perata, because I have not formed a decision about who I am going to vote for yet. I think that the comment about it being "his house" is related to the fact that the event took place at OPOA headquarters. A building paid for by union dues, not tax dollars.

Perata is a sleazeball gangster and corrupted beyond belief.

Perata supported Jean Quan for coucilwoman against David Stein I believe who now works on the Mehserle case as an Alameda prosecutor if I'm not mistaken.  Ignacio is his number one ally.  Council president Brunner a former Perata girlfriend as revealed by the East Bay Express a number of years ago when she first ran.  And Larry Reid in the Perata camp as well.  Probably Rebecca Kaplan as well.  Desley Brooks at times too.  Nadel is the furthest removed but she plays ball with Perata too when she wants something.

Perata is highly influential on the Oakland City Council and with other politicians like Jerry Brown and the East Bay congressional delegation.  And if a democratic governor is elected, he will have influence with him/her too.

The problem is it's not just the position of mayor.  The problem extends to Oakland city councils practices as well.  As much as people tar Dellums for having a personal chauffer and travel allowance and a huge salary, who gave him all of this?  The Oakland City Council.  And they did this because they expected something in return from Dellums.  They played ball with the new Mayor so they could get their own personal pet projects funded.  In political parlance it's called horsetrading.  So the question is, how can we stop this practice of politics to become horsetrading and backroom deals?  Why aren't more Oaklanders going down to city hall meetings and demanding and insisting upon transparency?  Why aren't hundreds of concerned citizens showing up at least once a month to one of the two council meetings for a least a portion of the meeting?

Ultimately, the citizens of Oakland have to start raking responsibility for their own representative government and their own lack of participation in their democracy.  If not, then they should stop complaining or at least admit they enjoy griping about the problems but are not interested in changing the status quo.

BTW, Jean Quan spends a lot of time playing ball with corrupt developers too.  That's what most of the Oakland city council does and has done for the past 20 years.  That is why Oakland is not run well as a city nor has the council been at all interested in making sure that Oakland city government is on a sound, firm footing.  In fact, it's true of many cities.

All true. All of the council have their own personal agendas and make alliances to get things done. Corruption in Oakland is as common and everday as the air we breathe, and as deeply ingrained. I ran into twenty years ago and it has only gotten worse. Public employees can go into databases and change entries on records made YEARS ago, and do so. The emails are destroyed and the public record reflect the last scoundrel's entry. And when you catch them, they are not even embarassed. I just went through this with CEDA, where inspectors play ball with property managers to avoid citations to the owner's property.  That one is vile.

I cannot even begin to speak about them online. I was told  many of the files from Code compliance were thrown in a warehouse higglydee pigglydee when the department moved into their new building and are "lost" or "disorganized".

Yep Erniem, it's all politics.  I cannot begin to tell you how good it is NOT to live in Oakland.  You need to have either a close relationship with your councilperson or send them tons of money in campaign donations.  Otherwise you will receive nil from the bureaucracy.  This mandates relationships with so many sleazy politicians and their aides and neighborhood people whom you would prefer not to deal with at all.

Oh how good it tis to be up here liberated from it all where  even the smoke up here smells cleaner! LOL!  We just had a really good rain and there have been lots of rainbows around.  Beautiful fall leaves too.  If you never go to Mountain View Cemetery in the fall, check it out, the top part where there are lot of big mausoleums from the SF bigwig capitalists who died and where there are beautiful trees in the fall.  You enter through the end of Piedmont Ave. and wind you way up past the 3 fountains and take a sharp turn to your first left and continue going on up to the very tippety top where the Greek section is.  Beautiful colors by the 3rd fountain.

Let's be fair. The full story here would include Mayor Dellums' efforts to take advantage of the chief's meet-and-greets by making them full-scale campaign rallies on his own behalf. Many people have reported sitting through almost two hours of hyperbole from Dellums and his supporters before they had a chance to hear from Chief Batts. Frankly, I've had enough of Dellums altogether. I used to be an avid supporter but nowadays I see him as just another rich deadbeat trying to milk the system.
