Good job OPD. However, the real criminals are still in Oakland City Hall laundering our tax dollars through so-called community organizations to buy their votes during each election. Until these parasites are removed & indicted, crime will be out of control. Report public corruption to www.fbi.gov. God knows that we have plenty to report here in Oakland.

it's great that OPD is sending the message loud and clear that they will shoot you if you present a danger to them or the populace.

Great work!

Police commonly justify shootings by claiming the officer's life was in danger. Officers and their departments have no interest in admitting a mistake in judgment, such as whether they panicked or shot in error, because the death raises the possibility of civil or criminal liability

(((Quote, Oakland Deputy Chief of Investigations Jeffrey Israel: Although they are trained to assume someone may be armed, police show "tremendous restraint," and usually people comply with the order to relinquish a weapon, Oakland's Deputy Chief of Investigations Jeffery Israel said. But officers will shoot if a gun is pointed at them and they fear for their safety. The number of officer-involved shootings is low compared with the number of contacts they have with the public -- about a million annually, and not all involve a weapon, Israel added. (This next statement he made, says it all) Oakland officers would not be able to function if they were scared of being shot," he said.)))

Being a parolee doesn't mean an individual is violent nor deserves to be shot. It means he/she paid their due to society, did time for a past crime & now on a short leash till he/she gets his act together... or they go back to prison, not get the death penalty. Running from the police or your p.o is a violation already, so if any cop feels it's ok to shoot or kill a parolee, he's declaring himself judge & jury, a vigilante. No excuse in the world should make that acceptable in American society, which is why there's a "legal process" before someone is sentenced to"death". I doubt anyone would kill their pet bird for refusing to get back in his cage which is why no jury would sentence any human being to death for running. It's natural human instinct to avoid what we fear. For yrs OPD have caught many ppl that run by simply chasing them & an OPD officer may have been shot maybe once in 20 yrs. chasing a suspect, if that. So I'm trying to figure out what is it they fear when they don't stand out in the open while apprehending a person or suspect

As I said.....by the time they come in contact w/ a person or suspect (gun or no gun) who has fleed or attempt to evade arrest, the officers have their weapons drawn & under cover. A person couldn't shoot them if they tried, especially w/ their backs facing the officers as in most cases after the investigation. More often than not, trigger-happy officers are using the same excuse "they feared for their lives".

And like Oakland's Deputy Chief of Investigations Jeffrey Israel stated, "Oakland officers would not be able to function if they were scared of being shot".

(Quote: The use of deadly force varies in frequency and is determined by circumstances, said Stresak, whose organization develops training standards for California peace officers and dispatchers. The litmus test is whether a reasonable person would fear for his life and the safety of others, he added. )

In other words, we have non-functioning cops policing our city now? No officer should willingly shoots someone, but that's the responsibility they have. And how are they getting OPD jobs IF they're passing tests, or are they rushing them thru? If they rule by fear and not by logic then OPD shouldn't employ them to police our city. Sh~t, send them to Walnut Creek or Concord somewhere. The only message they're putting out by taking folks out one by one is "you better get us first or we'll get you", before we know it the drive bys will be on the OPD & more than likely it'll be the wrong cops who get killed >:(

Bluepeas I am sorry, you have no idea what you are talking about. When they are chasing a suspect they are not under cover. They are out in the street and vulnerable. It seems you expect the officer to stop, put his gun away, and say: "Sir, please stop, put your gun down, and surrender peacefully."

Somehow I can NOT find sympathy for a fleeing felon, with a gun, who gets shot. Sorry. It is not going to happen. Period. Unarmed man shot in the back? Maybe. Fleeing felon with gun? Dream on.]

Drive by of the OPD?  Is that something you want to happen?  The drive by criminals with guns are the BAD  GUYS dear.  Sorry.

I think what bluepeas means in "under cover" is that they'll squat down behind cars, their cruiser, houses, bushes and so forth. Have you ever seen the police in action with their guns drawn when they confront someone they've finally cornered? Even someone who stops running or gets out their car after taking the police on a high speed, erniem? Like myself, obviously bluepeas has. Another thing, pants sagging does make it difficult to carry anything in their belt or waist band, as another member said. They usually don't carry guns on thier body and just keep them hidden in their cars for protection from car jackers, robberies and what have you. The police know all of this because it's part of their job to stay well informed. They also know from stopping people 24/7 that because males now wear their pants so low,  they have to pull their pants up whenever they get out of a car. Bluepeas is right in another one of his or her post about why most teens run before being caught by the police. It's usually to throw away drugs or toss shotguns which few have managed to put down their pants leg. Some run from particular officers who use excessive force or have threatened them while others run from officers known to steal money, valuables, drugs and now guns. Dirty cops know no one will file a complaint on certain stolen items and if they do, they'll come back to set them up with drugs they've stolen from someone else. People go to jail from being set up by dirty cops, which is also why many run. My aunt seen many of these complaints pass her desk. Parolees usually don't care what the dirty cops steal. They run because they don't want to go back to jail and they know shooting a cop could get them the death penalty. So why would they do it? Other than drugs influencing them. I'll wait for the investigation and facts too.

Many that run from OPD carry handguns but don't get shot. So it's only logical an intelligent person would question situations where they are shot, even killed. It doesn't show doubt. It expresses concern and bluepeas has good reason to be concerned. Hollywood isn't in town. This is real stuff  that goes on in these streets. An uncle is retired from OPD and my god mother now works there and see's the complaints on different officers. She's done confidential paperwork firing officers for the chief. My aunt is doing her internship@ Superior Court and after my half brother was beat by a police officer and later witnessing racism from the prosecutors office in Wiley W. Manuel Courthouse, my cousin decided to attend law school in Georgia to work for the legal system in Oakland. Her motivation is to stop discrimination. She graduates in 2 yrs. When ever someone is killed in Oakland, it's like a ripple that affects everyone who has roots here.

Bluepeas, your post is extremely naive, and shows that you might be happier if the officer had been shot by that p.o.s., right?  You try to portray a gun-toting convicted felon as if (s)he were a malfunctioning machine that can somehow be fixed and does not deserve to be put out of its misery should they threaten the life of a person.  Shouldn't the convicted felon be responsible for the consequences of his/her CRIMINAL actions?  What the hell happened to the idea of being responsible for your own actions?  What do you propose an officer do if the parolee is reaching for a gun?  Beg for mercy?  Run from the parolee?  Read your own post:

  1. "Being a parolee doesn't mean an individual is violent nor deserves to be shot."
  2. "I'm trying to figure out what is it they fear when they don't stand out in the open while apprehending a person or suspect."

Pleeeease, get real.  This p.o.s. was reaching for a gun.  He *had* to be shot.  No other option existed at that point.  The risk to the officer's safety and that of other civilians was too large not to shoot him.  That was the only option.  Anybody would do the same if somebody was reaching for a gun to shoot him/her.  You would do the same, that is, IF you wanted to remain alive to write more posts here and to be with your family for years to come.  Do you like the idea of being shot?  How about being paralyzed or being a quadraplegic due to some p.o.s. shooting you, huh?  Want to be tube fed?  Lose a limb?  How about being blind?  Brain damaged?  Now add the fact that these officers have families.  What about that?  That p.o.s. chose to commit his previous crimes and to reach for that gun.  I would have shot him too.  I WOULD WANT TO GO HOME TO MY WIFE AFTER A 10-HOUR SHIFT!!  I DON'T WANT MY FAMILY CRYING AT MY FUNERAL BECAUSE A LOW-LIFE P.O.S. CONVICTED FELON SHOT ME.  Remember, you use a gun to commit a crime, you go to jail or you get killed.  This idiot is lucky, 'cause he'll go to jail.

Bluepeas, siding with someone that broke the law, regardless of any excuse you might think of, is just wrong.  Need money?  Get a job.  Need more money?  GET 2 JOBS, DON'T DO DRUGS, AND RESPECT THE BODY GOD GAVE YOU!  May God bless and protect the officers that are patroling Oakland and any other city.  Yes, there are bad apples everywhere, but most are just good people like you and me.

logic does not work on crazy people like bluepees.  so it's pointless to try.  there would never be a justified  officer invloved shooting in bluepees eyes, no matter the circumstances.

oh hush up egghead. if it's ok for cops to shoot ppl b/c they carry weapons, guns, knives, swords, bats, tweezers whatever then they may as well shoot half of Oakland...& that isn't going to happen, do u know why? B/c we still have good cops on the force & b/c only cowardly racist or trifling rogue cops cross the line & shoot ppl just b/c they can. They're no different then a shady criminal who goes against street code or murders w/out cause than come up w/ the crapp---t excuse. Strength in character is based on disipline and limits we set for ourselves. No, I am not a cop.  I just think like a "normal" person, and I take responsibility for my actions.  Unfortunately, I expect others to do so.  How naive of me, isn't it?

I am curious about your statement "one we don't need on the force."  Is it because I'd like to go home ALIVE, and not in a body bag?  Is it because if someone pulls a gun on a cop, I'd expect that police officer to use whatever means to make sure that threat is squashed asap?  I don't think we need cops like the ones you'd like to have.  They would make the police force worthless, a laughing stock, and we'd have a lot more Felix Mitchell's running drugs.  Maybe then you'd be happier.

I can only imagine what you look like hiding behind your Windows 98 keyboard tapping away cowardly remarks you're to afraid to say. You remind me of the school yard bully who agitates other kids, than like a candy [bleep], runs behind the teacher when it's time to get your flat butt beat. Welfare check? you spend to much time in here to even have a job. You just signed in in June and already have what? 70 posts. Now that's funny

I truly enjoyed your "vision" of eggbert.  Now apply it to me (which I know you will), trouble, bluepeas and erniem.  You can see how many posts we have all made, and in what time.  You see, you lack credibility because you cherry pick those you want to demean because you disagree with them.  Apply the same standards you applied to eggbert when you "visualize" trouble to include the tone and quality of his arguments.  I eagerly await your next post.

Well if the OPD dont take care of these fools sooner or later they will either shoot someone else, end up in jail, parole, waste tax payers money and have bastard kids that they follow their footsteps. Lets save some more tax payers money.

Bluepeas is nuts. Letemdie has obviously lived in Oakland for a while. Like him, I see a lot of stupid, single black women, parasites, on welfare who started out really young having children by a series of criminals/deadbeats, all morons. Nobody in the entire extended family reads books or works at a job; they all either deal drugs or live off of public programs and use various scams to get even more stuff for free. The kids grow up to be either criminals or otherwise worthless, having or fathering children by criminals/deadbeats. The parents treat the children like crap, except that they defend them against all the people who could truly help them, like teachers and "the system," and make sure the kids grow up to be just as worthless and criminal as their parasitic parents. Anyone who is stupid enough to pull a gun on a cop deserves to be shot; the cop was defending himself, of course. If they really wanted to shoot people, they could probably justify shooting 10 times as many as actually get shot. Sometimes I wish they would, but those people are our responsibility to deal with, and it's not fair to ask the police to handle all of that. Bluepeas doesn't trust cops; maybe she trusts the gangs and muggers more. I've been attacked by muggers and gangs, and I trust cops more. Just depends on where you've been, I guess.

First, there was a threat and this officer acted accordingly!

Second the apple doesn't fall from the tree as far as these criminals are concerned.

When the parent is young, criminally insane, uneducated and has children, chances are the child's life will be the same. YellWhen the parent is a bad role model, we will have yet, another generation of crazy kids with no proper education, showing no respect for authority or another's life and the cycle continues.   They will be on their way to jail or juvenile hall in no time.   More tax dollars!

3 hots and a cot, which is probably more than they get at home.

Ignorance is bliss in a lot of these cases. You try and help some of these young mothers and you get cussed out and told to mind your business and then you realize it's your tax dollars supporting them.  It is your business!  You want to tell them to mind their child, educate their child but at the same time, if they have no education, what could they possibly teach their child?  There is help out here, but the people have to want it and want to change.

If these young parents are happy being ignorant, uneducated, on welfare, looking for hand-outs and it is available to them, guess what?  They won't change.

It is a shame this cycle is perpetuating and a shame tax payers have to pay for them to grow up and become criminals who could one day kill the hand that literally feeds them and the hand that protects them.

I am so sick of the lawlessness!  It's obscene!

This madness has got to come to a stop!

Oh, my God!  Help us!

Some of you people mistake my total disdain for this forum for my level of maturity.  I'm not here to have debates or try and change people's minds.  That's too lofty of a goal and would never happen.  The people who troll these forums have already made up their minds long ago.

No, I am here to make fun of criminal loving liberals, who love savages more than they love authority.

Eggbert, be honest just one time please. You, the jifs, and all the rest of you are here to promote the police as the heroes of society and the street criminal in Oakland, i.e., poor blacks, as being worthy of death.  Just the fact that you refer to other black criminals as "savages" speaks volumes.   And you all just as quickly attack educated black people as those who are more uneducated.  These obviously well-educated African American posters aren't "savages" and yet you feel the need to debase them too as well as anyone who doesn't share your limited mindset.

People who feel good about themselves don't have to engage in relentless campaigns of putting down others.  We all know that the only people who do this are those who have inferiority complexes are diseased from a sickness called racism.  This is different from your garden variety bigot.  There is a special person who has to vent nonstop against black people:  They are called "sick".  And the sick racist hates the educated black person even more than the uneducated black person.  Hence, the ugliest attacks against Bluepeas and others.

This is not the way normal people have fun.  Cannot you feel good about yourself and enjoy life without polluting these forum with all your ugly, race-based remarks?  All your racial stereotyping?

Who are you kidding? You're not here to make fun and put down liberals.  You're here for one sole purpose, you and your compadres:  to poke fun of, belittle and demean every single black Oaklander who attempts to post in this forum.

And as for your statement that liberals love "savagages more than authority", just exactly which authorities here are you referring to?  You mean the police as "authority".  The police are also hired Oakland employees who answer to higher city officials.  No, what you really mean is that liberals don't worship at the alter of police officers.  And in that, you're right.  Especially those who have displaying signs of stress and mental illness and have lost their moorings.  Historically, police officers have come from the uneducated sectors of society.  They historically represent immigrant groups who make their way into society through governmental jobs.  Why should educated people worship at the altar of uneducated ones such as yourself?  Sorry Eggbert, that we're not all masochists.  I respectfully urge you to go to therapy and get in touch with what is propelling you to  demean, and diminish nonstop.  Do it before you end up harming and scapegoating an innocent person.

Egbert is a one off, he has nothing but hatred and fear in his soul.  I am a race traitor to him, I want to see events analyzed on the basis of what happened, not who did what.  You gotta wonder what kind of frightened sad incredibly unhappy and angry guy he is.  Because he really does believe every black person alive is a savage criminal.

Thank you for including me in your post. It feels odd and lonely when you or others do not lump groups of people together and then paint them all with the same brush. It is true that I generally agree with eggbert, but not always. Eggbert is a bit more spare with his words, whereas I enjoy the discourse. Eggbert, and I on occasion, obviously love to imitate the ghetto garbage we have heard on our travels; however, that does not a racist make. Your attempts at Dr. Phil psychology are ill advised, and better kept between you and a friend talking about another friend. As for your suggestion that I hate educated blacks most of all...I am stumped. I am not even certain how to respond to this. I do note that you hold up bluepeas, and maybe trouble, as shining examples of "educated blacks." Nope, not in my book. The syntax, grammar and spelling errors as well as the malapropisms are often so laughable it reminds me of when "In Living Color" would make fun of those same things and hold them out as true shining stars of the ghetto. No, I love all educated people who are able to set forth their arguments (even those with which I disagree) in clear and logical ways. I will not play into this trap which you are setting for me, because I think you are the racist. I hope to christ you are black, because at least then your argument makes sense. If you are white then you are just one of the many racists who are in denial and have different standard for what constitutes an intellectual or educated person, with the lower one being for blacks. THAT is a sickness. I truly enjoy meeting and talking to people (race not a factor) who have far better educations than do I. It is invigorating to keep up with them. I rarely feel that on these forums. Why? Because even the smarter folks, like you, lack any sense of humor and I feel compelled to try to draw it out of you. In fact, more intriguing than intellect is a great sense of humor.

Jif, while claiming I make incorrect assumptions, you have just done that yourself.  I have defended Blue Peas who I think is more than literate and I did not hold up Trouble.  While being so ignorant of how to lay out an argument and often substituting insults and attacks, you then nitpick and critique others for spelling, grammar and syntax or malapropisms.  And you think these comprise an "education"?  In that you display your own incredible ignorance, lack of sophistication and unworldiness.  If you knew any thing about life and the world, you would know that an "education", doesn't reside in spelling, syntax or malaproprisms.  An education resides in knowing history, economics, philosphy, political science and being experienced in the ways of the world.  It can be totally based outside of a college or formal training.  It can be based on a wide,  long and diverse work experience geographically, it can be based on self-study, or it can be based on world travels.  Writing perfectly, taking the time to spellcheck, or checks one's malaproprism doesn't make a person think less clearly, be wiser or think analytically or be well-versed in life.  What it can be is that you're really [bleep] and are scared to death to make a typo!  I have a perfectly fine and intact sense of humor.  But I choose selectively how to employ it and with whom.  When I see people acting ugly and hateful, I'm not inclined to joke with those people or make light about what it is they are doing, especially when I know for fact that they are harming innocent people by mocking them and their racial background and taking cheap and ugly shots.  These things you find humorous, if you were indeed at all EDUCATED, as in ghetto stereotypes, you would keep to yourself.  You're petty and ill-based elitism devolves around incredible provincialism which is expressed in all your posts on this site.  And the whole reason why other educated people don't bother coming here, is because they have to read the ugly, low-life comments that you and others write in your perfect syntax.  And you call this an education!  I've met black people in this world who are barely literate but are far more sophisticated, wise and worldly than either yourself or Eggbert.  You can only swim in a very small fishbowl and get very far with your disgusting so-called humorous exchanges.  The rest of civil society doesn't tolerate you.

If it makes you low foreheads feel better, keep insisting I am something I am not.  Savages can be of any race, not just black.  Sounds to me that you are the ones with the problems, always thinking that a "savage" must be black.  What's up with that?

As a Oakland resident I am sorry for the families of the Officers killed in the line of duty.  Having 4 of our officers shot and 3 killed is tragic.  My prayers also go out to the family of the parolee who was shot and killed.  There is no greater pain than the lose of a son on the streets of Oakland.

No matter what else is said or done please remember the families of all those who died on Saturday.  Some choices we make  can lead to death and pain for those we leave behind. I believe the Officers acted in good faith, that the parolee acted scared because of past dealing with police officers.

Lets not start anything, but let pray for those who are left behind.  That is the memorial they need.

God Bless Oakland, Grant her People Peace...
