Restaurant and club pitched for downtown Hayward

Yeah! That's how to revitalize DownTown Hayward. Open up a Hip Hop nightclub. It's like a bad opening joke in a third rate comedians routine.

Yes, lets see how much worse we can make Hayward than it already is. If this passes, I will no longer go to Buffalo Bill's, Zuckersuss or the Theater with my family.

Yes! That is just what Hayward needs! More drunk/high young punks (and old punks who never grew up) to come in and cause problems. We clearly don't have enough of that already.

This is insanity.  B Street used to be a quaint and robust area full of antique shops.  In recent years speculators have bought up all the commercial spaces and upped the rents so bye bye for the antique shops.  When The City courted the Century Theater chain the speculators cheered because they thought that with the new theater people would flock to B Street.  Well that has not proved to be the case as the theater sits empty most days and nights and the vacancies continue to grow.  If not for Buffalo Bills and The Bistro, the block would be entirely empty when the sun goes down.  The Funky Monkey brings in thugs and undesireables and to think that somebody is entertaining the thought of bringing in something bigger that draws the same crowd is unthinkable. The building's owners should not be allowed to open another Urban dance club and in fact should be encouraged to bring in a business that goes with the blocks charector before the bobbleheads at City Hall decided to try and make B Street like Union Street.  It ain't gonna happen.  BTW..who wants to take bets on how long until Century Theater moves out and leaves a huge custom sized hole in the block?

That movie theatre was supposed to be a booming business is a ghost town because of the problems that already exist--which will only be exacerbated if this club is brought in.  I don't care how many murals you paint outside, a dump is a dump. Stop creating the environment that makes it the dump that it is.  Like the saying goes, "You can frost a dog [], but that doesn't make it a twinkie".  I look forward to the day when I will actually live in Hayward because I WANT to live here....not just because my family and I can't afford to live anywhere else.

Hayward is a blight, with people that match. I can see it now....2 weeks, MAX, before the first shooting occurs. Attracting a "hip-hop crowd"?? Get real, we all know what that means. Drunks, drugs, gang-bangers and their wanna-be's. Streets full of shi*liner Buicks, with 24's stuffed underneath the car, and a 9mm stuffed under the seat. BJ's in the park, just after dark. Some of that activity might actually be by women, but mostly not. Gee, for a touch of class, we could ask Kanye West to dedicate this swell idea. Building owner "Dinesh Shah". No doubt interested in improving downtown Hayward. They will be lucky to have toilets that don't leak all over the floor.

Place your bets - How long  will the council take to reject this? I say less than 20 minutes.

Oh yeah, The Funky Monkey is allowed to stay open cause the owner with the big fake boobs pays the cops off with free drinks, and God knows what else.

It's just one negative & nasty post after another with not ONE mentioning how nice it would be to have some choice in restaurants downtown.

Let's see, 'me & me' wants everyone to know that he or she won't take the family downtown anymore...as opposed to all the fun antique & pawn shop outings you & the family USED to have downtown?

I guess you & lazybones used to shop together, because it's lazybones we can thank for this observation: 'B St. used to be a quaint and robust area'. Oh. THAT'S what it was! Who knew 90 yr. old grandmas had computers!

Various other posts focus on the hip-hop aspect rather than the restaurant.

hip hop: 2 nights.   restaurant: more than that.

Both have yet to be addressed, approved, or disapproved by the city.

Yet that has stopped none of you from talking smack about the idea    or

one of the businesses adapting downtown:

The Funky Monkey.

uppauass and Damian Vargas: Both of you have been 86'd, haven't you? YEAH, YOU HAVE! Let me guess - are you one of the hugely overweight out of town girls that came in, started a fight - with the security cops, no less - were arrested, and now you're bitter? You sure SOUND like mean little girls.

Here's some facts:

1. jojo isn't embarrassed by her fake boobs. Get over it. She is a member of The Chamber of Commerce, frequently has charity raffles with most excellent prizes, food almost every other night, a dart team, a softball team, will close off the back bar for birthdays, candle parties -you name it; owns her own home & is an otherwise good example of a strong caring businesswoman. Those boobs aren't EVEN all that she is.

2. 'Paying off' the HPD??? Right - you can tell by the way HPD arrested a clean & sober bartender - FROM BEHIND THE BAR, NO LESS, had someone waiting for a CAB in handcuffs - FOR drunk in public - the police harrassment was ridiculous when it 1st opened - HOW much the HPD favor the place. It took a lawyer to call off the dogs. If HPD is in ANYONE'S pocket, try her competitors. Ever wonder how The B St. Bar USED to have a cafe serving breakfast & lunch, was sold with the stipulation that it too, would be opened within a 'reasonable' period of time - and it's STILL CLOSED? THERE'S just one of your former Cop-owned bars..but perhaps you and some of the other posters here ALREADY know that.

3.It's 'allowed' to stay open'? Because of all the 'thugs' that go there?

Would that be those wild & crazy dart-playing thugs?

Or the ones like me - the suit wearing, sports loving thugs?

Or the 'this-place-has-Mouton Cadet-as-the-house-white?' thugs?

APPARENTLY YOU DO know what happens there on Friday & Saturday nights! Hip-hop DJ, dress code, etc. So, you SHOULD know that ALL establishments MUST HIRE THEIR OWN SECURITY IN HAYWARD IF THEY HAVE MUSIC AT NIGHT. There's a University in town: what will involve them? What music will generate revenue?

HOW ABOUT SOME POSITIVE SUGGESTIONS?

'I don't care how many murals you paint outside, a dump is a dump.'

Oh SHUT. UP. That's a nice mural. Let's lay the blame where it belongs - a City Council unable or unwilling to bring or keep businesses in that area successfully( There's never a politico around the few times ya actually need one) & a city of the apparently disenchanted & terminally blase.

BTW, it's the Monkey's 2 YR. Anniversary. If you're out pawn shopping & being grumpy, drop by for food & raffles & other thug events.

Must be nice. I think you're drinking way too many of them! Would you care to discuss how the owner vandelized the restroom, and made anti gay slurs at a rivals bar? There's a good Hayward business owner for you!

Is Hayward still going to host weekend gang banging on B Street? Any updates?
