Hello,
I wanted to bring to your attentions about that has happened at the Longs Drugs/CVS in Fremont California located 46445 mission blvd 94539. Two of our very hard working employee's were as we feel wrongfully terminated by a new store manager that was just brought into our store by CVS. The first employee Melissa Ewing had worked for Longs Drugs for almost 10 years and was a supervisor for 8 of those years. She is a single mother of two very young children, and has been going through a very tough year. She finally worked up the courage to move out of her home that she shared with the father of her children who was very abusive too not only her but her two children, because of the hardships of being a single mother trying to take care of her two children and having to pick them up after school and bring them too her parents house so she could go to work it would make her a little late for work every now and then. Our previous store manager understood the reason why she was late every once in a while and knew it was a very valid reason, When he got transferred out and CVS brought in a new store manager (Denette) she did not listen too nor try and work with Melissa, instead she fired Melissa not caring about how she would support her self and her two children, because of Melissa losing her job her two children are going to lose their health insurance and Melissa can no longer make ends meet, and in this economy it could be a long time before she even finds another job where she makes enough to support three people. The second employee Alan Wood we also feel was wrongfully terminated, He had just ended his shift and was in line buying a pack of cigarettes when he was distracted by a customer. He went and helped the customer out and left the store afterwards forgetting he had not paid for his cigarettes. He realized this when he got home and came in the very next day and told the store manager (Denette) that he went to help a customer and accidentally walked out with the cigarettes he was going to buy and he came back today to pay for them. He went to the register and paid for them. A couple of days later on September 19th, 2009 he was terminated because of his mistake. We the staff of Longs Drugs/CVS located on 46445 Mission Blvd. Fremont, Ca 94539 are hoping that you will help us in having these two very hard working honest and dedicated employees (a single mother of two and a guy who was just doing the right thing) get their jobs back and have the terminations reversed and to help is in having this store manager who does not care about the peoples lives she is ruining resign. We are tired of our voices having no meaning and not being heard and are turning to you for help.
Thank you for your time
Sincerely,
The Staff of Longs Drugs,
CVS Store #9234 Mission Blvd

Good morning!
I called this morning to your store and asked that management reconsider the situation with Melissa and Alan. Melissa can sign up for FMLA, which my company (I work for Disney) allows for situations like this. I also pointed out that it costs far more to hire and retrain a new employee than it does to simply discipline an employee, and Melissa can probably qualify for FMLA. If the manager, Danette, is reading this, trust me...good employees (or in my case, cast members) are hard to find. It's better to keep what you have; it's good for the store, good for the community and good for your customers.
As to why I got involved? I was raised in Fremont, my mother still lives there, and she's been a life-long customer of Long's Drugs in Fremont. I still remember going to the store with her when I was a teeny tiny kid.
Here's hoping! Let's keep Fremont Working!!!!!
