Which police agency should be responding to a crime?

Police came to a neighbor’s door around 10:30 p.m., (here in Oakland, on my very ordinary block), to investigate/arrest him (and later had his car towed away, all apparently in regard to a hit-and-run somewhere else). The seemingly peculiar aspect to me was that ALL these responding police officers, (and all four of their police cars), were from the Alameda County Sheriff’s office; that is, none of the responding officers were from the Oakland Police Department. There may be more to this story. But this is how I’d like to introduce my concern.

Did it occur to you that your neighbor committed this hit-and-run in the Sheriff Department's jurisdiction?

No, it didn’t. Thanks. Nagging doubt: If the subsequent arrest occurs in Oakland, with four police cars responding, wouldn’t/shouldn’t OPD be present?

Nope, police officers in CA are allowed to enforce the law anywhere within the state. That is why flying past a city cop on the freeway can get you a ticket just as easily as flying past the CHP.
